The roads in the city centre were crowded with cars even that late in the night. It was the third time he was driving through that road looking for a place to park his precious Honda. He stopped a while waiting for someone in a red Jeep to leave. The driver had to maneuver several times before being able to drive off. It wont serve. Otavio thought about the place. To open. He needed a better, out of way, place to park.

Looking through the mirror he saw his boss, calm in the back seat, looking to the places where they were driving. “- Sorry my lord.” It was also the third time he apologize by not being able find a proper place to park. “- I’m in no rush.” He answered the first time but didn’t even nod in the other two.

A second time he had to wait, this time because of a man. Drunk. Otavio realized while waiting for the man in light blue suite to finally get across the road. In the mean time he just looked around, seeing for first time an area shielded by big trees. No wonder I couldn’t see it at first. Otavio thought, driving his precious dark silver Civic between the trees. There were two things he want to avoid. The first was upsetting his liege. The second was doing even the smallest scratch to the car.

He took some time before leave the car. And a bigger before opening the door for his boss. He wouldn’t let his Lord out before being sure it was ok. Instead, he tooka second look around while answering his mobile. “- Everything in order.” Said the male voice. It was what Otavio was expecting. He had sent some of his men before him, to take strategic position around the place where they are going. And some where following him. Those in car had to park far from there. For this, the three times Otavio had to circle before find a proper place became a good thing. Everybody had been able to take its place in time.

Buttoning his black suit, Otavio extended his hand to the left rear door. The black sleeve sliding over his black skin. A second later he was kneeling to his lord. “- Don’t mind.” Erick said. “- You’re gonna dirt your trousers.” If there was someone who could be opposite to Otavio, it would be Erick Haraldson. Where Otavio was a towering man, his lord was small. Some called him dwarf, one even dared to say it aloud, no one even remember his name today. While Otavio had a dark skin, even darker then the night sky when the stars were hiding, his Norwegian Lord had a fair one. Otavio had no hair at all, save for his eyebrow which in its turn was no more then a thin line. Erick had a deep red hair and thin, well cared, red beard in his chin.

“- Are you sure, my Lord, to come that place?” Otavio asked. If were someone else Erick would answer bitterly, threatening his half-life. But with Otavio it was different. Otavio knew him for a long time, from before Erick became powerful. He was one of those who helped him grow and so he was one of the few who enjoy more than a liege and subject relationship. “- This is no proper place for you, my Lord, and I’m not sure if I can provide full protection once inside his Domain.”

“- He had no Domain but the one I granted him.” Erick answered adjusting his night-blue suit whit silver buttons. “- And is not a proper domain at all. Don’t worry to much about his weaklingness. He will be too surprise to react properly.” He didn’t wait for Otavio but began to walk towards the busy street. Erick had never being in that city before, Otavio knew, but he looked as if it he knew the city as it was his own home. Using a wooden swordstick with a howling wolf head, Erick distanced himself a while from Otavio which didn’t had much trouble in picking up with his master. A look at the left hand and he saw the plain iron ring he always used. Otavio knew little about the homering. Some mysterious artifact which granted an almost absolute power to its owner in his own home. It should shine. But Otavio never saw his master ring shine. Doesn’t matter where he go. He is never in his home.

Beginning what?

I woke up few hours ago in this strange shaped room.

To start, the ceiling, the first thing I saw when I opened my eyes, has the shape of some kind of dome, in the middle of it, a bright blue light. It’s impossible to look directly to the strange light, it hurts, but also it’s almost impossible to don’t be attracted by it.

The walls was the second thing I notice, there is 16, no, 17 counting the one where my bed lies, the one with the unique window.

After fighting to make my body move and then to make it stand, I took a look to outside. I saw a big city, filled with skyscrapers, but I don’t recognise nothing of this city. I look deep in my memories, and I found nothing. Nothing about this city, about this room. So I look even deep, and nothing again, no cities, no rooms or houses. Every time I fond something, the image of whatever which was just vanish, and I could not find that again.

In the wall opposite of mine, wait, wasn’t an odd number of walls? How can it be exactly opposite? I counted the walls again, 17, all the same side, and again the door lies in the opposite wall to my bed!

So I stop to thing about it, was giving me head aches, and then I walked to the door. Wooden door, brown colour and a golden handle, no locks visible. I try it, and the door opened easily to some dark corridor. No sounds coming from outside, the only light on it was the light from that painful light in the room.

When I stepped outside the room, something flashed and the room become filled with the same eerie blue light, but I could not find the source, better for my eyes.

I walked through it, and as fast as the light start, the corridor reach its end in a wide metal door. Familiar, I know I have seen this doors before, but I don’t know when neither where. This strange and yet so familiar door had no handle to open, only a button on the right. Circular metallic button with a warm yellow light around.

For a moment I look back to the room which now lies complete dark, only with the light from the corridor entering a few steps on it, I have nothing there, I pressed the button.

The yellow light blinked a few times and die. I wait without knowing why, I just knew I had to wait. In a minute or so the light of the button lighted again and the metallic door slide open to the left.

A small square room with a red floor and a normal white light appeared, again, one last look to the room at my back and then I was inside this familiar small room. On the right, a panel with some buttons, from top to down, Dome, Presidential, Reception, then 8 numbered numbers, from 9 to 2, Reception again, Parking.

I tried the Presidential first, nothing, the first Reception, nothing, and nothing until the number 5 blink with a white light. The doors closed and the room shook. A familiar sound start, a continuous noise. I closed my eyes trying to remember of it, but I got nothing, instead, I remember the sounds of birds, and the wind, and an image of a green field running fast under me, the sound of birds died as some strange and unrecognisable noise started. I heard some kind of bip, and the door open as I opened my eyes again. Birds, the name still on my head, what is this birds.

A large room full of tables and chairs with people seated on it, they look busy, I didn’t want to interrupt then, but my body move without my knowledge, and I realise what was going on when someone gave me a closed brown envelop. “- Everything is almost dome my lord. Why don’t you back to your room and study this data?” He said smiling. But his eyes was telling me something different, something that make me step back.

What is this sensation? I look around looking for support, but no one seems to notice us. Without alternative, I took the envelop and back to the small red-floored room. He came with me and pressed the button named Dome, the button blinked and lighted in white colour, just as before when I pressed the 5, but the door don’t closed, the man was holding it. “We’ll gonna call you my lord in the right time. Until then, I strong advisee for you to stay at your room. For your safety and security.” After telling this as some kind of threat, he turn and left. The doors, now free, closed and the room shook moving back to the Dome.

A Venda

To congelando aqui fora!”

Erick guiou o grupo Continue Reading »

Rapidamente ele enco Continue Reading »

The Hind

This is the English version of the tale O Cervo (link here). It wasn’t easy for me to translate, so this still have some (if no several) mistakes. I will really enjoy if you could help.

The Hind

Some hours had passed since we started the hunt in the morning before sunrise. So far we had not found anything. No trace, no sign of deer, rabbit or wild boar.

Came to me four more hunters, Johan and Nathan, both as me, but while they carried composite longbows, I carried only a light crossbow.

“- You will not slay no rabbit Continue Reading »

O Cervo
